The tourism marketing arm of the Fiji government (Fiji Tourism) launched their official website recently by the Attorney General and Minister for Tourism. This website connects tourists traveling to Fiji with tourism plants such as resorts, cruises, dive operations and guides.
This is what the “Fiji Times”, the local Fiji newspaper had to say…
The websites unique built-in Travel Planner can tailor individual preferences for the full range of what Fiji offers – family holidays, romance, backpackers, diving and adventure. Attorney-General and Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the initiative put Fiji on the cutting edge of website marketing and had important benefits for the Fijian tourism industry. “We expect that the ability of holidaymakers to get quotes and book their holidays direct will lead to an overall increase in the number of bookings. Those direct bookings mean more money in the pockets of local operators, rather than their overseas agents, and more of the returns from tourism being kept in Fiji,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said. ……….Fiji Times April 27, 2013
One of the important issues that Fiji Tourism and tourist operators have to deal with will be the collection of relevant and important data. This data will assist all operators to create meaningful offerings for their visitors to enjoy and appreciate.
One such data has come out of a survey completed by a research team from the Monash University at the end of 2010.This data is the percentage of female and male visitors. Although the survey primarily targeted the back-backer segment, the results should provide some correlation to other target segments of the Fiji resorts, cruises and other tourism operator markets.
